What to Expect
Rather unkindly, the Glider Induction Course has been described as an extended Air Experience Flight. The content of the flight will vary from a Flight to show you some local features of interest, demonstration of the controls and an explanation of the instruments to teaching some basic flying where you will take control of the aircraft. The VGS is a training unit and we do not teach or demonstrate aerobatics. A GIC flight is often a Cadets first experience of flying in a small aircraft and the start of the process to becoming a pilot.

You are encouraged to ask the staff and your instructor what is involved in a Gliding Scholarship. The main purpose is for you to consider whether you want to undertake a course. You should consider the following:-
  • Do I want to fly this aircraft solo?
  • Can I give the commitment to attending the VGS for training? Weekend courses can and do over the winter period, extend over many months.
Key Benefits
  • The Cadet has an opportunity to experience flying training
  • The Cadet can see and fly the aircraft
  • It is beneficial for VGS staff development
AssessmentTheir is an element of assessment of the cadets for suitability for future training. However, unless you are clearly very unsuitable, the instructor will recommend all the cadet for further training. It is expected that only a tiny minority will be classed as unsuitable.More Information.
