Squadron Success!
It gives me great pleasure to announce that 613 VGS were awarded the Racal trophy for sustained improvement in gliding performance. This award is in no doubt testament to the constant hard work and and enthusiasm of everybody on the squadron and it is to you that the award belongs. It gives me an enormous sense of pride to think of how far we have progressed, how this has been recognised at the top and how much we can further achieve in the future.
Two New Grade 1′s
A big well done to CGI Stephen Sully and FSC Carl Jenkins; Both of whom recieved their Grade 1 on Saturday 17th July 2010.
CGI Sully currently holds an ATPL and Instructor Rating; he joined the school early 2010 and has put his vast aviation knowledge to good use.
FSC Jenkins is a cadet at 2F Watford squadron ATC; he has spent one day of his weekends at 613, the other day at the RAF GSA where he recently achieved his NPPL (SLMG) on the Grob 109b – a civilian registered Vigilant.
We wish them both many happy GIC Sorties.
Success for 613!
During the week of 10 – 14 May 2010, two more instructors were sent to Central Gliding School in Syerston.
CGI Ellie Balcombe was awarded with a B Category.
Plt Off Simon Challis was awarded with a C Category.
Further to this, on the Sunday of 16 May 2010 staff training at Halton continued, this allowed for
FSC CWO Alex Boden to receive his Grade 1 qualification.
Congratulations to all.

Congratulations!
Despite battling bad weather, airfield serviceability and volcanic ash clouds, 613 are still getting lots of new qualifications for cadets and staff.
Well done to CGI Dan Halbert, who successfully completed his course with the Central Gliding School at Syerston, qualifying him as a B Category Instructor!
CGI Halbert will now be qualified to act as duty instructor, teach cadets their advanced glider training (AGT), provide staff training and send second/subsequent solos.
